Nancy Lee Grahn: Twitter Attacks 'General Hospital' Star Over Reaction On Viola Davis Emmy Win, Demanding She Deletes Social Media Account [PHOTO]
General Hospital star Nancy Lee Grahn has found herself in hot water after tweeting about Viola Davis' Emmy acceptance speech and claiming that the How To Get Away With Murder actress didn't know true discrimination.
Grahn took to Twitter after Davis' heartfelt acceptance speech where she discussed the lack of powerful and affecting roles for women of color in television, initially saying she thought Davis' HTGAWM boss, Shonda Rhimes, could have probably written a better speech for her.
However, after a fan tweeted back to her with a screenshot of Rhimes tweeting that she loved Davis' speech, Grahn proceeded to set off a firestorm by writing that Davis didn't actually know what it meant to be discriminated against because of her status as an actress overall.
The comment set off a firestorm of critical tweets in Grahn's direction, from fellow celebs and general fans, as they criticized her for trying to take Davis' shining moment (she became the first African-American woman in history to win the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series) away from her.
The backlash did cause Grahn to try and defend herself--
-but her comments continued to cause major criticism-and even calls for her delete her Twitter account-especially when her mistake in saying that Harriet Tubman was more worthy of honor because she dug tunnels (referring to the Underground Railroad) were also noticed:
