Renewable Energy In 2050: The World Could Run On 100% Renewable Energy In A Few Decades
A new report from Greenpeace reveals that the world could run on 100% renewable energy by 2050.
The 2015 Energy Revolution report states that we are not very far away from a renewable future.
Emily Rochon, a global energy strategist spoke to ThinkProgress about how the resources and solutions were already available to them and all that was essentially needed was political will
"It's basically political will," she said. "The primary premise of the Energy [R]evolution scenario is we have all of the solutions already on the table to get there."
In fact according to the report by 2030 we two thirds of our energy would be reliant on wind and solar.
Additionally, Rochon supported the reports assertion that the transition would also lead to job creation. It is believed that renewable energy will make up for 87 percent of the jobs in the energy sector by 2030, and about 9.7 million people will be employed in the solar sector.
"Renewable energy definitely means more on the jobs front," Rochon said.
Rochon also spoke about a few impediments and complications, like the fact that fossil fuels are favored in this regard she believes that renewable energy sources will overcome anyhow.
"Despite the fact that the playing field isn't level and is tilted in the favor of fossil fuels, renewable energy sources are still winning," Rochon said.
If this report is solid on facts and logic, the policy makers of this country should wake up and smell the coffee.
"A renewable energy future is within reach," Rochon said. "It's really up to our political leaders to say, yes, and we can do the work to get there."
