Meanwhile, franchise creator Linda Schuyler previously told The Hollywood Reporter that even though technology has taken over society, the teenagers will go through all the struggles that high school brings.

"At its core, it's the teenage experience of the 1980s and 1990s, and then the millennials, and now we're talking to Generation Z," Schuyler revealed. "There's so much common experience that all teenagers go through, that's the familiar side of Degrassi."

With social media and iPhones coming about, the creator opened up on how this will add more storylines.

"The audience keeps renewing itself and the fact that technology keeps changing and the way kids communicate is changing, it gives us lots of opportunities to keep the stories fresh and new," Schuyler said.

Degrassi: Next Class will be released on Friday, January 15 on Netflix.
