Black Hermione Backlash: Best Twitter Responses To Claims Harry Potter Character Has 'Always Been White'
Ever since the black Hermione controversy hit the Internet, Harry Potter fans have been voicing their opinions. But despite what the media may tell you, there has been a lot of support over the decision.
Black actress Noma Dumezweni will play Hermione Granger in the upcoming play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which follows Hermione, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley in adulthood. In the wake of Monday's announcement, many fans took to the Internet to express their outrage.
Some believe Hermione has "always been white" and that this is "canon," but J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has expressed her thoughts on the situation:
Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione https://t.co/5fKX4InjTH

Here are some of the positive responses to the casting of a black actress as Hermione:
I love how Hermione being black is somehow more implausible to some people than a universe where the entire postal system depends on owls

#BlackHermione, end and conclusion : theatre is not about canon, it's about archetypes and emotions. (and that's a #Slytherin writing)

of course Emma did a great job as Hermione, but Hermione's made of personality, not skin color. you shouldn't have problems w black Hermione

No disrespect to Emma Watson, but now I'm wondering why movies didn't have #BlackHermione. Would've been good.

Me being the realistic optimist that I am, I believe that casting had everything to do with talent zero to do with race #BlackHermione
