Will Smith is taking his mental health very seriously after he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, and it's honestly refreshing to see.

The actor said in a statement that his bevhavior was "shocking, painful and inexcusable." He also apologized to Rock, and resigned from the Academy, following the incident at the 2022 Oscars ceremony.

Smith also had this to say to the general public:

"The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy," he said at the time. "I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film.

"Change takes time, and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason."

This trip to India, which was reported via one of People's sources, is not a vacation - the source says that Smith is going there "for spiritual purposes, to practice yoga and meditation." This is a proportionate response, considering that the slap in question was one born of blind rage - exactly the kind of thing that yoga and mediation teach you to control.

This is the kind of responsibility we wish everyone would show for themselves when they realize they made a mistake. Smith immideately acknowledged his wrongdoing, apologized to the person he hit, apologized to everyone who was tangentially affected, then said 'okay, I'm gonna go figure myself out to make sure this doesn't happen again.'

Somehow, even though the slap itself wasn't classy at all, Will Smith is still conducting himself as a class act. It's nice, for once, to not see a star just fully implode on themselves after a scandal.
