When Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi (Daniela Ruah) kissed in the NICS: Los Angeles season finale, fans were ecstatic.

However, it appears the partners are in for a bumpy ride as the CBS show progresses through season 5. According to series creator Shane Brennan, Deeks and Kensi will have more problems to resolve then just their ever-growing sexual tension.

Deeks Will Have Trouble Dealing With Torture Aftermath

"That very unexpected, spontaneous kiss between Deeks and Kensi set something in play and they didn't get to talk about it before he is in jeopardy...That trauma causes Deeks a lot of physical and mental pain," Brennan told Xfinity. "He has to resolve the issues from the torture before they resolve the elephant in the room, which is the kiss. Ultimately, they do, and things look like they will be getting back to normal, but they don't."

While Deeks recovers from his wounds, Olsen claims the pair will have the "most heartbreaking" scene yet.

Who Will Leave The NCIS: LA Team in Season 5?

"It's one of the few times that Deeks is able to... says exactly what he means," Olsen said, according to TV Guide.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that the pair will have all that long to spend together after Deeks' recovery. Several months ago, Olsen teased the possibility of his character's return to the LAPD. Now Brennan has confirmed that the dynamic duo will in fact be splitting up during the season.

Peter Cambor Will Return to NCIS: LA as Psychologist Nate Getz

"Kensi and Deeks will be split up as partners midseason. And when I say split up, they will really be split up," Brennan said, according to Xfinity. "And when you think we can't or won't do anything else, we have got in the back end of the season, a big fat juicy complication in their lives."

NCIS: LA will return to CBS on Sept. 24.
