At least twelve people died in the Washington DC navy yard shooting on Monday, and two possible suspects are still at large, according to reports.

While the cops shot down one of the prime suspects, two of them are still absconding. The shooters opened fire in Building 197 at the Navy Yard. About 3,000 people work in the building. The first reports of the shooting surfaced at around 8:20 a.m.

Washington's police chief, Cathy Lanier, told reporters that the investigation was still very active. "The big concern for us right now is that we have potentially two other shooters that we have not located at this point," she said.

Lanier described one of the suspects as a white male dressed in what appeared to be a khaki military uniform and a beret, with a hand gun. The second suspect has been describes as a middle-aged black man, who was wearing an olive military-style uniform, and carrying a rifle. The third, dead shooter had an assault rifle and a hand gun on him.

A woman who gave her name as Terry Durham, and claimed to have spotted one of the missing suspects, told the Washington Post that, he was tall and "appeared to be dark-skinned."

"He was a tall black guy," her co-worker, Todd Brundage, corroborated her description. "He didn't say a word," he added.

President Obama has also expressed his condolences for the victims of the shooting and lauded the victims as "patriots" who "know the dangers of serving abroad" but faced "unimaginable violence they wouldn't have expected at home."

"I've made it clear to my team that we want the investigation to be seamless, so that local and federal authorities are working together," he added.

Some residents have been posting about the situation and documenting the chaos on various social media platforms:

Police have asked anyone with information on the two suspects to call 202-727-9099.
