American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson recently revealed a few more details surrounding the character she'll be playing in the show's fourth season in addition to the general feeling Freak Show is set to have.

American Horror Story: Freak Show, the fourth installment in the horror anthology series, will feature Paulson playing a freak show performer. The role is set to be the actress's most demanding character yet, requiring her to go through physical rigors.

Paulson spoke with the Los Angeles Times about her upcoming character, and while she did not reveal the specifics behind it, she did confirm that it will be "physically demanding."

Despite the difficulty of the role, Paulson said that she actually made a request to American Horror Story executive producer Ryan Murphy for the character.

"I did make a request about this character," Paulson said. "And [Ryan] did give it to me."

Asked about the tone of Freak Show, Paulson said that it will definitely be "darker" than the more light-hearted Coven, but also a hybrid between the previous season and the darkly intense Asylum. She said that Freak Show will bring "something new" to the anthology series.

Meanwhile, one of the bigger stories surrounding the fourth season of the show is the upcoming departure of star Jessica Lange. Paulson listed off a few actors and actresses who she thinks could potentially come in to "replace" Lange as the series moves forward.

Paulson listed Emma Thompson, Glenn Close, Alan Rickman and Isabelle Huppert as potential performers she could see being good on American Horror Story. However, she also noted that "you can't replace Jessica Lange, no matter how you slice it."

American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres in fall 2014 on FX, though the network has not announced an air date yet. It will presumably be returning in October, like the previous three seasons.
