A fan-favorite is headed back to Salem on Days of Our Lives-though she won't feature on-screen, taking on a director's role again.

Sami and E.J. Reconnect

Allison Sweeney, whose character Sami Brady will soon exit the canvas after 21 years on the long-running soap, will return to the fictional town, taking a turn in the director's chair, though it is unclear for how many episodes and when they will air.

Sweeney shared the news on her Twitter page August 28, along with a photo of herself with costars Deidre Hall (who plays Sami's mother, Marlena) and Lauren Koslow (who plays her enemy, Kate).

Sami and Kate Panic Over Stefano's Return

"Aww! It's like going home. So happy 2 b back in Salem-directing! Love visiting my peeps. @laurenkoslow @deidrehall," she wrote August 28.

Sweeney also recently directed an episode of ABC's General Hospital, and will once again return there as a director as well.

She is not the only soap actress heading to Salem however, as Melissa Archer, who portrayed the character of Natalie Buchanan on ABC's One Life To Live from 2001-2012, as well as on the Prospect Park Online version of the soap in 2013, has already begun filming the role of Serena on the soap.

While the details of Archer's character are being kept mostly quiet, with the exception that she naturally has ties to someone else in Salem, she isn't the first former OLTL actress to head to the soap-her former co-star Kassie DePaiva has been causing trouble on the soap since premiering in the spring as Eve Donovan.

DePaiva also shared her excitement to be reunited with Buchanan on her Twitter page, sharing a photo of them together on-set.

"Welcome to SALEM! #Days #Oltl GOOD TIMES COMING!" DePaiva tweeted August 26.

Archer's character is set to debut December 5.
