$65 Million To Marry Daughter, Hong Kong Businessman Offers
A Hong Kong shipping and real estate tycoon has made an offer of $65 million to whoever will marry his lesbian daughter, after rumors began circulating that she eloped earlier this year with her girlfriend.
Cecil Chao Sze-tsung, 76, told BBC his daughter, Gigi Chao, 33, is a "very good woman with both talent and looks."
He also said, "I don't mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted."
Sze-tsung made the announcement about the $65 million offer earlier this week after reports claimed that his daughter married her girlfriend of seven years, Sean Eav, Gawker.com reported.
It was confirmed by ABC News that Chao was quoted telling Beijing press that she had married her girlfriend, however, Sze- tsung called reports of his daughter's marriage to be false.
In addition to the large sum of money on the table, Sze-tsung also announced that he would help potential suitors start their own business, "as long as they can provide the talent," Gawker reported.
Sze-tsung also stated he would never force his daughter into something, including a marriage, that she would not want.
"My father took a hands-off approach in parenting," Chao told Hong Kong Magazine back in 2007. "I see him as a friend more than a father. My parents never pressure me with high expectations."
Sze-tung has been "a staple of the Hong Kong tabloid and social rags since the 1970s" because of his, shall we say, playboy ways, according to the ABC News report.
"For over 40 years he's proudly paraded what seems to be an endless supply of female arm candy in front of the flashing bulbs. Tales of his romantic dalliances are tabloid staples," they said. "He once boasted about having slept with over 10,000 women. Just last year the septuagenarian Chinese Casanova, as to prove his virility has not been dashed by time, posed in a magazine photo spread surrounded by young bikini-clad models."
