Currently, the writers of the show are also hard at work. Various tweets from the writing team and showrunner Warren Leight announced that the team was finally back in office to plot out the next chapter of intirgue. Leight "reported" from day 2 of writing with the crew stating that they had stories to tell.

Leight has generally been good about keeping fans posted about the progress on the season. He recently revealed that the episode will be "big," comprising of two parts and will be two hours long. He posted about episode 1 via his Twitter account around the time when the date for the season 17 premiere was announced.

In an interview with Variety, Leight dished about some interesting plot points for the next chapter. The show is known to source its inspiration for cases from the news, and hot topics. It seems like the buzz surrounding transgender celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox has caught the imagination of the writers.

"We've already started our season 17 storylines. We're doing a story about a transgender teenager," he said.
