The third season of Reign will have some intriguing stories revolving around Queen Elizabeth and her relationship with others in the English court.

Jonathan Keltz Talks To Enstars About The Morbid Drama On 'Reign'

On Thursday, Entertainment Weekly shared an interview with showrunner Laurie McCarthy who mentioned that one of the guests at the court will be Catherine de Medici. Conveniently enough, these two powerful women will develop something pretty close.

"That's an interesting dynamic between those two women because much like Mary, Elizabeth is someone who really was never parented," McCarthy said. "And Catherine is good at being someone's advocate and much like she was Francis' advocate, she goes over there and she strikes up a very personal alliance with Elizabeth."

The showrunner then teased a character named Robert Dudley, who will have romance with Elizabeth. But someone is going to stand in their way.

"A wrinkle in the relationship between Elizabeth and her love interest Robert Dudley is his wife Amy, who seems very sweet but maybe isn't so sweet," McCarthy revealed. "She's going to be a great fun rival for Elizabeth. She's going to be such a thorn in her side. [Amy's] a little nuts."

As it turns out, another character on the show will be getting a new love interest of her own. Greer is expected to meet a pirate who is described as "adorable," "sexy" and a "bad boy."

Reign Season 3 premieres on Friday, October 9 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
