The first trailer for "Star Trek: Into Darkness" has now been revealed and features more small clips of action scenes then all of the franchise's first ten films prior to the J.J. Abrams takeover.

Abrams' follow up to the reboot of the 2009 "Star Trek" will feature Benedict Cumberbatch of "Sherlock" as an antagonist. However, he may not be the terror-filled Khan made well-known in "Star Trek's" original series by Ricardo Montalban.

The unknown villain played by Cumberbatch is said to be "an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis," according to the movie's synopsis.

"You think your world is safe. It is an illusion. A comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace for I have returned to have my vengeance," says Cumberbatch in a chilling voiceover.

Even more fascinating than the chilling voiceover is the very last shot of the Japanese international trailer for the movie, which has 12 additional seconds of video footage that reveals two hands on opposite sides of a glass divider.

The shot is a clear reference to a scene out of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn," where Spock ends up having to die in order to save the lives of the remainder of the crew. The respective occurrence has led to a massive amount of speculation over whether or not history will indeed repeat itself in "Into Darkness."

Interesting enough, fans of the future blockbuster will be treated to nine minutes of the film prior to the start of the soon to be released "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which will be showing in select IMAX theaters.

"Star Trek: Into Darkness" is slated to hit theaters on May 17,2013.
