According to the Daily Mail on Thursday, the presidential candidate has sparked a new hashtag trend on Twitter, where women are live-tweeting updates to him about their menstrual cycles. Females are using #periodsarenotaninsult to tell him all about their periods after he supposedly implied that Fox News host Megyn Kelly was unfair to him during the first GOP debate last week because she was on her period.
Trump told CNN that his words were taken out of context when he said, "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever."
The 69-year-old clarified his statement by saying, "Who would say that? Do you think I'd make a statement like that? Who would make a statement like that? Only a sick person would even think about that."
He then blamed his opponents and the media for firing up the controversy even more by suggesting that he was talking about a woman's period when instead, he meant to refer to her "nose or ears."
Still, it hasn't stopped women from mocking him on the popular social networking site.
Some tweets include, "Thought you should know I'm on my period. Whoa, and still completely myself and functioning," while another wrote, "Meanwhile, if men got periods, you just know @realDonaldTrump would brag his was the heaviest in history."
