American singer Katy Perry canceled her appearance at the People's Choice Awards to be held in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers closed!" Katy Perry announced on her Twitter account on Monday.

Perry had seven nominations at the show including Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Song of the Year for "E.T."

The appearance was going to be the first since her husband, British comedian Russell Brand, filed for divorce in December.

The couple's divorce has been the media attention ever since and has taken by surprise fans as well as friends of the couple, according to reports.

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends," Brand said in a statement back in December.

Brand cited "irreconcilable differences."
