Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer was nominated for "Song of Summer" at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, but unfortunately the foursome could not attend the big night in California.

They happen to be on their Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour and were in New Jersey for a stop when they learned they won for their latest single "She's Kinda Hot," which beat out summer jams from Fifth Harmony, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and others.
Throughout the voting process 5SOS was in a tight race with Fifth Harmony and Kid Ink for "Worth It," but the fans of the pop/punk rockers managed to maintain a lead.

Their win was announced during the pre-show. Their fans accumulated 52,970,094 votes while Fifth Harmony and Kid Ink's fans racked up 51,315,205 and all the other nominees in this category basically didn't stand a chance with their votes ranging from just over 7,600,000 to just over 6,000.
The band was super stoked about winning!
Calum Hood praised their fans since they voted their "a---- off."
Michael Clifford thinks it is "incredible" that they won a Moonman!
Ashton Irwin gushed over how the 5SOS fans "DOMINATED" in voting and suggested they "rest those typing thumbs!"
Irwin even alluded to the lyrics of "She's Kinda Hot" when they mention "the new broken scene."
Luke Hemmings thought winning for "Song of Summer" was "bad---" and deemed this award as being the fans since they put all the work in with voting to earn it.
The band capped off their series of tweets thanking their fans with some pictures from their New Jersey gig.
They have off today, Aug. 31, but continue their tour tomorrow, Sept. 1.
