'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: Eddie Redmayne Says 'Never Say Never' To Grey Role
The film adaptation of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" continues to create buzz on a massive scale, as fans continue to debate over who will land the lead role of S&M-crazed CEO Christian Grey. Although many actors have been highly considered for the part, Eddie Redmayne of "Les Miserables" is the latest name to be brought up after he spoke about the sexy story to a notable publication.
While the 30-year-old former Burberry model stated to Marie Claire that he's yet to read the erotica, he did make it perfectly clear that he's open to playing such a racy character.
"I know there's a huge amount of hype around it [the movie] so I definitely never say never. I've heard so much about this book I see people reading it on the tube and I'm always really impressed that they're reading it on the tube because it's kind of kinky," said Redmayne.
"I'm thinking 'What are you getting off on on the tube?' I've not read it myself," he added.
Other potential candidates that have come up for the Grey character include "Gangster Squad's" Ryan Gosling, "Vampire Diaries'" Ian Somerhalder and "Gossip Girl's" Chace Crawford, amongst many others.
The "Fifty Shades of Grey" story centers on a recent college graduate named Anastasia Steele who gets herself into a dominant and submissive sexual relationship with the rich and kinky Grey. Through an "agreement," they both explore the world of bondage and masochism.
James revealed on the "Katie Couric Show" that she already had some potential suitors in mind for the Christian Grey character, but unfortunately would not come clean on who they were.
"I have I think three people who could fit, I think, could play Christian and about four who could play Ana. And I'm not going to tell you any of them."
Up until now, James and the producers attached to the film have remained relatively mum on their casting approach. Focus Features and Universal Pictures purchased the rights to the "Fifty Shades."
