'Mad Max: Fury Road' News: Movie Named Best Film Of 2015 [VIDEO]
Mad Max: Fury Road has come out on top as the best film of 2015 as judged by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
The movie beat Laszlo Nemes' Son of Saul, Hou Hsien's The Assassin and Jafar Panahi's Taxi for the top honors. The federation took movies released after July 1, 2014 into consideration.
Mad Max director George Miller was thrilled at winning the FIPRESCI Grand Prix. The Hollywood Reporter sourced the director's statement acknowledging the win.
"You could have knocked me over with a feather! It's lovely to have this great cohort of critics acknowledge our collective labours in this way."
According to the report, Miller will be officially honored with the award at the San Sebastian Film Festival on Sept. 18. Mad Max Fury Road will also get a special gala screening at the event.
The movie has generally been a hit with fans, critics and Hollywood stars alike. Recently Michelle Rodriguez mentioned the film as something of a touch stone for how female characters should be portrayed in action films. When talking about her vision for Fast and Furious 8 in an interview with Metro, the actress mentioned Fury Road.
"If I were ever to do it, I think you have to be all encompassing. You have to think holistically and look for the broader audiences. And I don't like hating on guys to make women powerful," she said. "I think you can do both. Mad Max is proof of that."
