Who Will Win 'Dancing With the Stars' This Fall? Take Our Poll!
Not only has Irwin never danced prior to her upcoming stint on Dancing With the Stars, but she hasn't even worn heels before. The nature-inclined daughter of the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin is getting used to this whole DWTS experience, but she's going about it with great enthusiasm.
Bindi spoke with Entertainment Tonight recently about her time with DWTS so far and how it's all a learning experience.
Why Is Artem Chigvintsev Missing From 'Dancing With the Stars' Pro Lineup?
"They said, 'We're going to put you in these heels,' and I don't think they realized that I had never worn heels before so I stood up and instantly fell down," Bindi admitted. "Yeah, that was a good start!"
Luckily for Bindi, she will have the guidance of the most successful pro dancer in DWTS history, Derek Hough. The five-time champion will be Bindi's partner throughout the upcoming season, and she is very thrilled about it.
"I have the greatest teacher on planet Earth," Bindi said. "I walked into this whole new adventure having no concept what I was going to do - I had the passion in my soul, but you really don't know what to expect. Derek was so good at putting my mind at ease and we've been taking it one piece at a time."
Bindi had to grow up early after the death of her father nine years ago, and the 17-year-old hopes to honor him this season.
"I hope that dad would be proud of me because he is my superhero," she said. "He always will be and for many of us, as a family, we've tried so hard to make sure that everything he loved and lived for carries on."
Dancing With the Stars season 21 premieres Monday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
