Pregnant Duchess Middleton Out And About; Presents At Award Show
The pregnant Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, made her first public appearance Sunday night since being hospitalized for acute morning sickness.
Middleton, in a dark green dress, presented awards at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year event. She gave the lifetime achievement award to Sebastian Coe - the newly elected chairman of the British Olympic Association and a two-time Olympic middle-distance champion - and the sports personality of the year award to Tour de France and Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins.
Palace officials have said the duchess is in the first 12 weeks of her pregnancy. It would be the first child for her and her husband, Prince William.
Middleton's Sunday public appearance was also her first since the alleged suicide of Jacintha Saldahna, a nurse who worked at King Edward VII Hospital where the duchess, 30, was admitted. Saldahna was reportedly the victim of a prank call by two DJs from an Australian radio show who called the hospital impersonating members of the royal family in order to get information about Middleton's condition.

Prince William and Middleton announced that they were expecting a baby on Dec. 3. That same day, Middleton was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, commonly known as morning sickness. She was expected to attend the United Kingdom premiere of "The Hobbit" but missed it due to her prolonged hospital stay so Prince William attended the event alone.
Regardless of the baby's gender, he or she is a first-born and therefore next in line to the throne after Prince William, who follows his father Prince Charles.
The duchess and Prince William wed in April 2011 in a lavish and televised affair that was watched by viewers around the world.
