Eagle Grabs Baby in YouTube Video; Authenticity Debated [WATCH HERE]
A baby was shown snatched by an eagle in Canada in a new video posted on YouTube.
The incident was captured on film which shows a Golden Eagle trying to fly off with a toddler at a park in Montreal.
The camera follows the majestic eagle flying through the sky before coming down for a landing near a parent and child. The bird grabs the toddler with its talons and attempts to fly away. The eagle struggles to hold the baby and drops it back on the grass before returning to the sky. The cameraperson runs over to help and the child seems to be fine.
Golden Eagles are birds of prey which usually prey on animals like rabbits, rodents and smaller birds. The average wingspan for the eagle is around 6.5 to 7.5 feet. The video shows that the bird was able to lift the child off the ground for a short while but was unable to fly high enough due to the toddler's weight.
The video was uploaded on YouTube on Dec. 18 by user MrNuclearCat and has gone viral with nearly 3 million views in the short time since it appeared.
The authenticity of the video was called into question with many viewers saying it is not real.
User opennewscast wrote, "I've been working with digital images professionally for 15 years, and I'm convinced this is fake. The swoop down at 0:10 looks just like cheap CGI to me."
While some users made jokes or were skeptical of the video, others pointed out reasons that could legitimize the incident.
User bdnsirdiealot commented: "Not sure if fake or not but this is what I did notice, the babies face is turned left or to camera side if you will and then turns forward, as Golden Eagle snatches baby the baby neck and torso lurch forward and neck pops back as would happen if a person were hit from behind in a car. The kids arms dangle foreword and legs drag behind and as the kid falls you see the hands go down as is instinctive to brace a fall. Could be real."
