The Visit, Shyamalan's new horror film out in theaters now, is getting the director his best reviews in years. In fact, according to Rotten Tomatoes, critics consider it to be his best movie since 2002's Signs.
The film centers on single mom whose life is turned upside down after his children take a trip to their grandmother's house.

Here are some of the more noteworthy critical quotes for The Visit:
"I hear Hollywood whispers. I feel something is amiss. I see dead directorial reputations. And I smell a comeback," said Brad Wheeler of The Globe and Mail.
"Somewhat slowing his slide into irrelevance, 'the next Spielberg' (loco citato, Newsweek - emphasis on loco) M. Night Shyamalan has come up with an unoriginal faux-doc horror picture that actually works like a demonic charm," said David Edelstein of Vulture.
"'The Visit' represents Shyamalan cutting loose, lightening up, reveling in the improvisational behavior of the kids, their jokes, their bickering, their closeness," said Sheila O'Malley of RogerEbert.com.
Meanwhile, here are some fan opinions on the return of Shyamalan:
