One Direction 'X Factor' Season 2 Finale Performance "Kiss You" (WATCH VIDEO)
"The X Factor" announced their second season winner - Tate Stevens - during the live finale on Dec. 20.
The hit singing competition show offered a grand performance that delighted fans when one of the reality show's biggest success stories from their U.K. version of the show, One Direction, hit the stage.
The British boy band performed for the second time on the show this season, singing their latest single, "Kiss You."
All five members - Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan- drove fans wild as they performed in front of an extra-large pair of big red lips as a stage prop.
According to a report, the British boy band actually taped their performance in advance twice because the giant pair of lips were supposed to shoot laser lights but it didn't work. And it didn't work the second time around either. The network went with their second taping that featured co-host host Mario Lopez's chat with the group. After the interview, Lopez got a handshake from all four members, except Harry Styles, who gave Lopez a hug.
As for the announcement for the winner of season two, Stevens was crowned after the hosts revealed that Simon Cowell's group Fifth Harmony placed third. Stevens won $5 million and a recording contract with Syco/Epic Records. Sonenclar and Stevens had performed Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" together prior to the reveal.
"First and foremost, I gotta thank the man upstairs for taking care of me," Stevens said in his acceptance speech. "My family, all the country music fans, God bless you and thank you so very much for all the votes, and this is the best day of my life."
The finale's other highlights included a montage of each judge that put a spotlight on each judges' various quirks that made them stand out during the season. For L.A. Reid it was his hand gestures, for Demi Lovato it was her constant bickering with Cowell, for Cowell it was some of his most memorable lines of the season including "You sound like a dog trying to lay an egg." The most entertaining was Spear's face expressions during auditions and on the live results shows.
