Amal Clooney News 2015: Is The Human Rights Lawyer A Victim Of Sexist Comments? [VIDEO]
When it comes to her celebrity profile, Amal Clooney might not say much even though there's no doubt that she's making a lot of waves the world of international law. After being slammed for only getting high-profile cases because she's married to Hollywood star George Clooney, another report is defending the British beauty by listing all of her successful cases before she became a gossip blog staple.
According to the Daily Mail on Monday, Justice Minister Edward Faulks made the rather sexist comments during a book launch in London. He apparently made the jab as Amal is currently working on a case to help her most recent client, jailed former Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed.
Faulks said, "I'm sure she gets such high-profile cases and everyone wants her because she's married to George Clooney; and by employing her they'll give publicity to their case."
He added rather sarcastically, "I heard her speak after the court case defending the journalists who were convicted in Egypt and, if I'd have closed my eyes, I'd have never placed her because she has this new-age media trendy accent. I can tell you, they weren't like that when I was a barrister."
According to Metro.co.uk on Tuesday though, the site reminds readers that Amal worked with Judge Patrick Robinson in the trial of Slobodan Milosevic, was a counsel to a UN inquiry into the use of military drones, and was a legal advisor for the King of Bahrain, Ukranian PM Yulia Tymoshenko, and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
So far, Amal herself has not commented on the criticism.
