Gabrielle Union and her husband Dwyane Wade stole hearts around the nation when they released a short film surrounding their wedding day; but now the Being Mary Jane actress has opened up about a huge battle they are facing in their marriage.

One thing Union hopes to have in the future is children. While Wade has four sons from previous relationships, Union said she would like to give birth to a child but the struggle is much more difficult than most would think.
She said in the latest issue of Redbook magazine, “So far it has not happened for us. A lot of my friends deal with this. There’s a certain amount of shame that is placed on women who have perhaps chosen a career over starting a family younger. The penance for being a career woman is barrenness. You feel like you’re wearing a scarlet letter.”

On the flip side, she said that for women who do have children, “you get pregnant, your career takes a hit.”
Interestingly enough, Wade, 33 is nine years younger than Union, 42. She also opened up about their age difference.
“I realized his friends, his teammates, were conceived when I was like, a senior in high school. I was in high school at the same time as their parents! Sometimes he’ll be like, ‘Oh, my gosh, he’s so old!’ bout someone who’s 35.”
Still Union said she’s “a young 42, so it balances out.”
The couple wed on August 30 of 2014 in a private ceremony.
