'Pacific Rim 2': No Sequel From del Toro? Legendary 'Halts' Production [VIDEO]
Stop your Jaegers. Do not pass go. Do not continue production on Pacific Rim 2.
It's time to dole out some disappointing news to Guillermo del Toro's legions of fans - Pacific Rim 2 has stalled, and it might not ever make it to the big screen.
That's the word from The Hollywood Reporter, which bravely delved into the current issues plaguing the films production company, Legendary Pictures.
"Legendary wanted to produce a sequel to del Toro's Pacific Rim, which was made under the Warners deal and turned into one of those films that grosses a lot ($411 million worldwide) while being so costly that a follow-up isn't a sure thing," The Hollywood Reporter announced. "Sources say Legendary liked that the original performed exceptionally well in China, where the company is heavily invested, but for now the project - which had been ramping up to make a release date in August 2017 - has been halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all)."
Lack of money has never actually phased del Toro, however, and it's safe to assume the writer/director will continue to proceed as he did before Legendary committed to the project.
"I don't have the money, but I'm proceeding like it is happening," del Toro teased back in 2014, according to Buzzfeed.
