Harvard University News: Harvard Employee Embezzled $80k To Buy Legos And iPads
A Harvard University employee simply went all out with his recreational expenditure on the school's account.
Shawn Bunn, a former computer lan manager at the university who worked there for 17 years, allegedly used the university issued credit-card tp purchase himself a bunch of fun stuff like Lego sets, iPads and TVs. There were a few items which were also meant to for domestic use like garbage disposal and a table saw.
The authorities found the items that had been charged on the card at Bunn's home in Watham Massachusetts. InfoBlizzard reports that the discrepancies were tracked when the Harvard risk and audit services department reviewed the universities finances earlier this year and found out that Bunn had siphoned off a major chunk of money for personal expenditures.
Bunn was arrested and released after being fitted with a tracking device. The accused is expected to show for trial in the court on Oct. 8.
Here's the statement from District Attorney Marian Ryan about the crime:
"This is a breach of trust by a school employee. Over a period of four years, the defendant is alleged to have made personal purchases in excess of $80,000 therefore diverting resources from the students and faculty of Harvard University."
