'Night of the Living Dead' Footage: Never-Seen-Before 9 Minute Zombie Footage Unveiled [VIDEO]
Bloody Disgusting reports that there is 9 minute of unseen footage that was gutted from the film set to be unveiled now.
Director George Romero revealed this exciting bit of information at the Monster Mania in Maryland. Romero recently found the 16mm workprint which has the scene, it is part of the basement sequence and is reportedly the longest zombie scene in the film.
Martin Scorsese is currently working on a restoration from the negatives and this scene is likely to feature in the final product.
When Night of the Living Dead released back in 1968, the film elicited some very strong reactions from audiences and some viewers simply walked out of the theatre according to this piece by Roger Ebert. Ebert also interviewed Romero about the movie in which the director spoke about his different approaches on Night of the Living Dead and its sequel, Dawn of the Dead.
"Both times, the look of the movie was a conscious decision." he says. "At the time we did Night,' I was a director of television commercials. Some of them cost a lot more than our whole movie. They were very slick, sophisticated . . . we wanted the opposite look for 'Night.' We wanted it to look like a newsreel. "With 'Dawn,' I wanted the slick took, I wanted to bring out the nature of the shopping center, the retail displays, the mannequins. There are times when maybe you reflect that the mannequins are more attractive but less real - less sympathetic, even - than the zombies. Put those kinds of images side by side, and you raise all sorts of questions."
