Rihanna’s former publicist apparently had a guilty conscience after sparking rumors that the singer was coming between Beyonce and Jay Z years ago.
Beyonce Gets Close To Jay Z Amid Split Rumors
It’s because he made the whole thing up in hopes of making Rihanna’s rise to fame much quicker. News of this comes as news that an unauthorized biography about Beyonce will soon be released and share much of the rumors surrounding the speculated love triangle between the three recording artists.
Jonathan Hay wrote an email to New York Daily News to confess that he did indeed lie about Rihanna and Jay Z having an affair.

“The pr stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break ‘Pon de Reply.’ It was reckless and I didn’t think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.”
It looks like it did stick because Beyonce and Jay Z reportedly split for a year. At the time, rumors even swirled that her songs like Irreplaceable and Resentment were about Rihanna and Jay.
Hay wrote, “I apologized to [Beyonce]…the whole thing is very awkward.”
Hay has also extended an apology to Jay Z. He’s clearly not representing Rihanna anymore. But he’s still trying to get his foot up in the music industry and is a producer. Interestingly enough, his latest project When Worlds Collide is on Beyonce and Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal.
He confirmed that news of the biography sparked him to come out with the truth.
“I was blindsided by the news of ‘Becoming Beyonce’ coming out and it couldn’t have come at a worse time for me. I’m currently releasing projects with my label Urban Hitchcock through Tidal, a company owned by Jay Z and Beyonce…Hopefully this news hasn’t ruined that relationship to me.”
He went on to say that he is “ashamed.”
