Lady Gaga’s youth empowerment non-profit: The Born This Way Foundation
On Feb. 29, Lady Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta will laugh the Born This Way Foundation at Harvard University—a nonprofit foundation ‘created to promote youth empowerment and equality by encouraging self-confidence and well-being and bringing bullying to an end,’ according the MTV news.
Her partners, Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the MacArthur Foundation and the California Endowment will be joining in the fete in hopes to promote anti-bullying legislation.
Lady Gaga has become the poster child for anti bulling around the world. At the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas, the singer dedicated her ballad, ‘Hair’ to Jamey Rodemeyer, and 14-year-old fan who committed suicide last year after being harassed for being gay.
Gaga has become the top contributor to DoSomething.org in the name of gay rights. She was also nominated on Thursday, Jan. 19 for Outstanding Music Artist at the GLADD Media Awards.
"My daughter's foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be," Germanotta said. "She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society."
"I hope that we can acknowledge all together that where this needs to begin is in the schools," Gaga said during her acceptance speech for the Hero Award by the Trevor project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide prevention service to LGBT youth.
"I want my fans and people all over the world to know that there's always somebody that's listening. But I want them to know they're listening before it gets too late."
