Shakira Pregnant: Singer and Boyfriend Gerard Pique Throw Baby Shower...With a Twist
Shakira and her boyfriend Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique are throwing a baby shower... with a twist. The couple launched their world baby shower in collaboration with UNICEF aimed at making donations to children with no financial resources around the world. (Watch Video Below.)
On the baby shower web site called "Inspired Gifts," people can buy gifts such as mosquito nets for $5, or vaccines for $10 enought for 17 children or a $110 peanut-based paste to treat severe malnourishment, and the couple will donate the items to children living in some of the poorest communities in the world.
"To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations," the couple wrote on the website hosted at the UNICEF site.
Guests can also win prizes by spreading the word about the event with their friends. People earn points for each piece of exclusive content they share and increase their chances of winning signed Shakira CDs and DVDs and FC Barcelona shirts and footballs.
The 35-year-old singer, who is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and Pique are expecting their first baby this month. Although Shakira hasn't announced her due date, reports say she will give birth in mid-January.
Shakira announced her pregnancy in September. She and Pique have been dating since March 2011.
Being pregnant does not seem to slow Shakira down as she has been working on her new album as of late. She will also replace Christina Aguilera on the singing competition show "The Voice."
The Colombian singer was spotted with Pique and her huge baby bump at a public event on Monday fueling speculation that her baby will arrive any time now.
She attended the launch of her dad's book "Al Viento y Al Azar" at Barcelona's bookstore Casa del Libro. (See the picture here.)
"My son is going to have a great example, a grandfather who has many stories to tell. In (my hometown) Barranquilla, my dad isn't Shakira's father but rather I'm the daughter of William, and he's the best father life could possibly have given me. My cornerstone, my best friend, not only in my career but in my life," Shakira said, according to MSN Entertainment.
