1. Planes, Trains and Automobiles
This is still the undisputed, reigning champ of all Thanksgiving movies, and with good reason. It's hilarious, heartfelt and profound all at the same time. This was also the first time John Hughes traded in the teens with adults and we must say it was nothing short of successful. The Steve Martin-John Candy pairing is still one of the best comedic performances we've ever seen.
2. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
"C'mon, you can do it, Chuck!" - it's one phrase everyone who grew up with 'Peanuts' continues to smirk about. An uncooperative chair, a game of ping pong, a dinner of popcorn and buttered toast plus the wordless warmth brought forth by everyone's favorite beagle, it's no wonder this Emmy-winner, heartwarming fun film is timeless.

3. Home for the Holidays
This Jodie Foster-directed, starlit ensemble hits all the right points, especially if you're that kind of person who comes home for the holidays. Just about anyone can relate to the dysfunctional family set up this movie is founded on. Holly Hunter does such a good job in reminding us that despite of it all, there's nothing like spending Thanksgiving with family.
4. Pieces of April
This to us, is the underdog of all Thanksgiving films. It's got that gritty, amateur charm that critics can easily pass off as mediocre. However, it's the heart of the movie that's got us putting this among the top of our list. The film follows the April who attempts to whip up a Thanksgiving dinner in her cramped, seemingly infested apartment, for her less-than-perfect family.
5. The War at Home
If it's Thanksgiving drama you want, there's more than enough of it in this moving film. Directed and led by Emilio Estevez, it tells the story of a returning Vietnam War veteran who comes home for Thanksgiving only to find it extremely challenging to adapt to the realities of small town life. From wearing his uniform to the dinner table to pulling a gun on his father, 'The War at Home' takes on a very emotive approach to a mostly joyous celebration. Intense as it is, it's one Thanksgiving film we highly recommend.
6. Son-in-Law
A fun watch with not much cerebral exercise, this film continues to be one of the best Thanksgiving films out there. It follows the story of a big city boy pretending to be a girl's fiancé, who travels to the Midwest to celebrate Thanksgiving with her 'fake' wife-to-be. What should have been a play of pretend turns into something more. A must-watch for the entire family!
