Prince Harry on Nude Photo Scandal: “I Let My Family Down”
Prince Harry finally addressed one of the most difficult moments of his life: the nude photo scandal.
Last year, the raunchy images of a naked Prince Harry partying in a Las Vegas hotel room circulated the web and appeared on the covers of a few newspapers. The photos sold for $14,000 and caused great shame to the royal family - they even hired legal counsel to ban all United Kingdom media from publishing the images.
Prince Harry had invited a group of people to his suite at the Wynn and Encore Hotel after attending a pool party. The hotel room party became more raucous and during a game of strip billiards, the 28-year-old was photographed hugging a naked young woman from behind as she held a pool cue. In another photograph, Prince Harry covered up his genitals with his hands while only wearing a watch and thin necklace.
From his military base in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, Prince Harry talked about the embarrassing scandal. He said, “I left myself down, I let my family down, and I let other people down.”
“It was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince. It’s a simple case of that.”
He owned up to his shortcomings but believes he was entitled to more respect for his privacy.
“But at the end of the day I was in a private area and there should be a certain amount of privacy that one should expect,” he added.
The royal also admitted to killing Taliban insurgents, saying that as an Apache helicopter, he took enemy fighters “out of the game.” He acted as a co-pilot gunner in the attack helicopters in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and now that he returns to the United Kingdom after completing his second deployment in Afghanistan, when asked if he had killed any Afghan enemies, he answered, "Yeah, so lots of people have."
