Empire star Jussie Smollett is speaking out after reports said the Fox Series suffered a drop in ratings.

Is Jussie Smollett Dating ‘Love & Hip Hop Hollywood’ Star Milan Christopher? He Says…

While it’s safe to say that not as many people are tuning in to the series as they did when its first season took over television last year, Smollett isn’t worried about the show experiencing too much of a lag.

He told The Associated Press, “First of all, I don’t think about the numbers, I don’t look at that. I’m like, ‘Are we No. 1?’ Cool. And keep it moving. That’s not my job to get all wrapped up in that.”

Still, he added that he’s not completely blind to the lower ratings after the sophomore season debuted back in late September.

“I’m aware of it—don’t get me wrong, but it’s kind of like (Michael Jackson’s) ‘Thriller’ vs. ‘Bad’…That was such a huge album, but so was the other one.”

Smollett also revealed what familiar faces we’ll be seeing this season. Viewers of Empire have noticed that the celebrity cameos from Alicia Keys to Chris Rock to NeYo have also been stepped up this season. Smollett confirmed that Mariah Carey will be added to the list. He said he hasn’t taped with the singer yet, but added, “You know, me and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers. Mariah is coming; I just don’t know when. I know nothing like that…”

But what he does know is that the two will be “working” together soon.

“I just don’t know if it’s going to be ‘Empire’ or a song. Who knows?”

Be sure to catch Empire Wednesdays at 9/8c on Fox.
