Dutch
Ed O'Neill and and a young Ethan Embry star in the 1991 comedy Dutch. The film centers on a blue collar man (O'Neill) who takes the son (Embry) of his wealthy girlfriend on a trip over Thanksgiving weekend. It's a road trip movie that shows what it means to be thankful for your loved ones even if they're a little different from you.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Another road trip movie that's perfect for Thanksgiving is Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Steve Martin stars as a man trying to make it back home for Thanksgiving when his flight gets grounded due to a blizzard. He is then stuck traveling with an obnoxious traveling companion (John Candy).
American Son
Nick Cannon plays a marine home for Thanksgiving in American Son. The drama features the 19-year-old soldier deals, with romance, family and much more. The independent film also stars Melonie Diaz and Matt O'Leary.
Pocahontas
For children unaware of the origins of Thanksgiving, Disney's Pocahontas teaches a great history lesson about settlers coming to America and encroaching upon Native American land. While the film is hopeful about finding love between people from different backgrounds and cultures, it does not shy away from the underlying darkness behind what would ultimately become Thanksgiving.
Rocky
Those in the mood for a truly uplifting drama on Thanksgiving can look no further than Rocky. The classic boxing story shows the dysfunction of a family gathering for the holiday in the beginning of the film, including an unfortunate mishap with the turkey.
All of these titles are currently available to stream instantly on Netflix.
