Award show season is officially in full swing as both film and television stars prepare to hit the red carpet for the Screen Actors Guild Awards airing this Sunday from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. The SAG Awards will air live on TNT and TBS at 8pm.

Dick Van Dike will be honored with SAG's Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution in television.

The nominees will face some fierce competition as 2012 was a notable year for great film and television.

Surely, critics and fans wait in angst to see which of the top films take the golden statue for Outstanding Performance by a cast in a motion picture which includes "Argo", "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", "Les Miserables", "Lincoln", and "Silver Linings Playbook."

Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day Lewis, Denzel Washington, Hugh Jackman and John Hawkes are on in competition to nab the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor award.

Jessica Chastain, Helen Mirren Marion Cotilliard, Jennifer Lawrence and Naomi Watts have their eyes set on bringing home the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading role.

"Boardwalk Empire", "Breaking Bad", "Downtown Abbey", "Homeland", and "Men Men" compete for the coveted Best TV Drama award.

"30 Rock", "The Big Bang Theory", "Glee", "Modern Family", "Nurse Jackie" and "The Office" are hoping to win the award for Best Comedy.

The presenters for the evening amount to a roster of Hollywood heavyweights; Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin, Viola Davis, Neil Patrick-Harris, Justin Timberlake, and Kerry Washington are among the big names.

In past years, the award show has been credited for predicting the winners to take top honors at the Academy Awards. Winners will be anyone's guess, but "Lincoln" and "Les Miserables" are category forerunners, as well as "Homeland" and "Downtown Abbey."
