Steven Tyler doesn't live up to his rep with Star Spangled Banner performance? [VIDEO]
He may judge a singing contest, but on Sunday Steven Tyler had his turn in the spotlight.
Tyler sang The Star Spangled Banner for the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens football game and some were not happy with his performance.
"How could Patriots be inspired by that awful Anthem sung by Steven Tyler?” ESPN analyst Skip Bayless tweeted. “At least give him some screaming guitars to camouflage voice."
"I went outside to put a raccoon out of its misery – then i realized my neighbor was watching Steven Tyler sing the Star-Spangled Banner," journalist Greg Gutfeld tweeted.
Tyler also seemed to flub some of the lines to the song, which many other singers in the past have done as well.
He sang "as bomb bursting in air" instead of "the bombs bursting in air" and "oh the land of the free" instead of "o'er the land of the free."
While some were unhappy with the way Tyler performed the song, many others attributed it to just being Tyler’s signature singing style.
"I'm not understanding the people who say Steven Tyler 'butchered' the national anthem," tweeted one of his fans. "He sang as he always does … what were you expecting?"
