Allen Iverson Could Be Returning to Basketball; D-League's Texas Legends Interested
The Texas Legends are attempting to sign former NBA Most Valuable Player Allen Iverson to play basketball, again.
Sources told ESPN that The Legends, an affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, has offered Iverson a deal to play for the team. Seems like the perfect timing for The Legends - as they moved to the top of the list in the D-League's waiver line. If Iverson agrees, The Legends would have an unobstructed path if his name falls in the D-League's player's pool.
Formally the Colorado 14ers, the team became the The Texas Legends in 2010. Last season, they finished overall in 4th place in the Western division.
Iverson could be teaming up with seven former NBA players - Justin Dentmon, Melvin Ely, Luther Head, Rashad McCants, Sean Singletary, Sean Williams and Delonte West.
This is not the first time The Legends have reached out to Iverson. The team reached out to Iverson this season - as well as an offer last season. Iverson declined, with hopes of returning to the NBA one day.
Iverson last played with Besiktas in Turkey, which only lasted 10 games because of a right ankle injury.
Iverson hasn't played in the NBA since his tenure with the Philadephia 76ers. In his last game on Feb. 20, 2010, he scored 13 points. Two days later, he left the team indefinitely, describing "personal reasons". After being voted as an NBA All-Star starter by the fans, he did not play. In March 2010, Iverson was release from the team by former General Manager of the 76ers, Ed Stefanski.
Just last week, Iverson made headlines when he reportedl reached a $3 million divorce settlement with ex-wife Tawanna Iverson.
Iverson is the NBA's 19th all-time leading scorer, with 24,368 career points.
