Beyonce's Super Bowl 2013 Halftime Show Update: No Destiny's Child Reunion, Says Michelle Williams
Beyoncé's highly anticipated halftime show at the upcoming Super Bowl had many fans eagerly await a rumored Destiny's Child reunion on stage.
According to Destiny's Child band member Michelle Williams, fans shouldn'y expect to see the leading girl group on stage together again because due to scheduling conflicts, Williams is unable to join her band mates on Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
"I'm going to be in the musical 'Fela!'" Williams told radio station WRUG Media. "I hate to disappoint the people and tell them that it's not true."
"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," Williams added.
Williams is scheduled to perform at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday in Washington, D.C. the same day of the Super Bowl. The "Fela!" show, a Tony-nominated musical about the life of Nigerian activist and singer Fela Kut, marks her return to the stage in a 16-city tour.
"But we did record a song with each other before the holidays," Williams reminded radio listeners.
Williams referred to the group's recently released track "Nuclear," the first song to be released from their ballads-only album, "Love Songs," which will go on sale Jan 29. Williams says a confirmed reunion is still "possible."
"We have talked about it," said the singer. "You know, one day soon."
Last week, an insider gave a rundown of what fans can expect during Beyoncé's halftime show. The source told Us Weekly that the 31-year-old will kick off her performance with a solo set. Her lineup will begin with the dance number "Crazy in Love." Beyoncé's husband, rap mogul Jay-Z, may also perform with her because he lends his rap vocals on the track.
The source claimed to confirm rumors of a Destiny's Child reunion at the Super Bowl. Kelly Rowland, 31, and Williams, 32, were reportedly planning to join the Houston native on stage midway through her set to perform several Destiny's Child hits - including "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Survivor" - and their new song "Nuclear" according to the source.
