VH1’s Love & Hip Hop New York stars Yandy Smith and husband Mendeecees Harris received some not-so-great news Tuesday.

Harris was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for his involvement in a huge drug ring. He apparently transported lots of cocaine and heroine throughout the state of New York, including the Rochester area.

Harris spoke at the sentencing Tuesday with Smith in the audience holding their daughter, Skylar, who was born back in January.

He did apologize “for any trouble I have caused the city of Rochester” and said that he has changed since becoming a father.

“Ever since (having children) I’ve been trying to right my wrongs.”

In addition to children Skylar and Amir with Smith, he is also father to Mendeecees, Jr. and another child from previous relationships.

Fans saw much of Harris’ legal troubles play out on Love & Hip Hop New York. In one of the seasons, Smith was having trouble getting him a bail hearing as he spent roughly a year in jail. He was released in time to start taping season five on bail, and the two even tied the knot on live television in a special Love & Hip Hop wedding segment that aired on Memorial day.

Smith spoke out on Instagram and thanked fans for their support.

“We finally have closure and are prepared and ready for all the future holds.”

Harris also made a special message on Instagram and encouraged young men not to follow his path. Check it out.

The couple will still star in this season of Love & Hip Hop New York that begins on December 14 at 8/7c on VH1.
