Selena Gomez said she is enjoying her single life since breaking up with Justin Bieber days before the New Year's holiday by acting, among other things, a "bit more sassy."

During a dinner celebration for her new Nylon magazine cover on Wednesday, the former Wizards of Waverly Place star told E!'s Marc Malkin, "I've been recording, having a lot of fun with my girlfriends, having a good time." She did not reveal details about her new music except saying "I'm having a lot of fun expressing everything that I'm feeling."

"I'm good. I'm really good...I've been telling people I'm definitely a little bit more sassy now," Gomez, 20, said. "I'm a little bit more mouthy."

Her film Spring Breakers opens in theaters March 22. The drug-and-sex filled movie costars James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. Breaking away from her Disney image is something Gomez said she is excited about.

"I think people are used to seeing me in a certain way," she said. "I think it will be a little shocking for people but in a good way. The movie as a whole is a lot to take in, and I've definitely expressed that to my younger fans."

In his interview with Billboard magazine for his own featured cover, Bieber said that post-split he is "not in the happiest place." He added that his new song Nothing Like Us, off of his recently released album Believe Acoustic, was inspired by his breakup with Gomez.

Billboard noted that the song "sounds like the heart-broken teenager that Bieber in all probability is."

Gomez did not reveal if any of her new music is inspired by the Boyfriend singer, however, she tweeted images of herself in a Los Angeles recording studio, proving that she is hard at work on her new album. The only hint she gave about her music was through a photo caption, in which she wrote she was recording "a sad, sad serenade."
