The psychological traits of the characters in Bates Motel are about to be explored through a professional's perspective.

Filming Finally Begins For 'Bates Motel' Season 4

On Friday, Deadline announced that a new character named Dr. Gregg Edwards will join the series as a Resident Doctor at Pineview Mental Institution. He has a professional curiosity as well as a personal investment in his patients, according to the site.

The character will be played by Damon Gupton whose previous credits include Whiplash, Unfaithful and The Last Airbender. He also played Detective Cal Brown in The Player, Detective Calvin Walker in Empire and Adam Page in The Divide.

How Much Longer Will 'Bates Motel' Stay On Television?

As for the rest of what's about to happen on the A&E drama, fans can expect Norma's character to get more out of control. Nestor Carbonell (Sheriff Alex Romero) previously told ComicBook.com that things are about to happen with her broken shell.

"There's a lot of payoff," Carbonell said. "There's been a lot of set up until now, so there will be payoff. We saw Norma's descent already clearly happening especially through the second half of last season so we'll see more of that to come, no doubt about it. For my part, whether anything is gonna happen with Norma, she's a frustrating woman, that's all I've got to say. She's a tough one. She's a tough nut to crack so we'll see what happens there."

Bates Motel Season 4 is expected to premiere in spring 2016 on A&E.
