Lil Wayne Haircut: New PHOTO Of Rapper's Afro Goes Viral
Rapper Lil' Wayne, 30, debuted a new hairstyle at a party in New Orleans on Thursday.
He attended an event in his hometown - where the Super Bowl XLVII will take place on Sunday - to celebrate the birthday of and perform with Atlanta rapper Big Boi. The pair posed for a picture with several other friends and when Big Boi posted the photo on Instagram, it immediately went viral because Lil Wayne appeared to have cut off his signature dreads.
The "Lollipop" rapper, 30, performed with Big Boi at the Madden Bowl XIX event at the Bud Light Hotel, and sported a baseball cap as he rapped across the stage. His haircut shocked his Twitter fans because Lil Wayne rapped about his dreads over the 10-plus years he had been wearing them.
In his "Drop It Low" song with Chris Brown, he rapped, "dreads braided to the back, Im chillin but my swag on full attack."
Lil' Wayne began his rapping career when he joined the Cash Money Records label, founded by his mentor/rapper Bird Man, at the age of 9 in 1992.
Last month, another male celebrity known for sporting long locks also made the bold move and cut off his hair.
Famed snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White cut his signature long red hair for charity. White shocked fans when he released a YouTube video that documented his haircutting process, titled "It's Only Hair," in which the 26-year-old cut his ponytail to donate to the non-profit organization Locks of Love.
In the video, the Olympic gold medalist admitted that it was a decision he had "been thinking about" for a while.
"Ummm, it's for a good cause, so I wanna do it. Somebody needs it more than I do," said a nervous White.
In the barber's chair, White ran his fingers through his long, curly hair for the last time. When the barber began to cut his long locks, the athlete immediately asked him to stop, but eventually let him cut it after a brief pause. In the end, White seemed satisfied with his decision and the results: "I like it," he said, while looking in the mirror after the haircut was complete. "It's good."
