Presidential Candidates 2016: All Dem & GOP Candidates Reactions To Trump's Muslim Ban Proposal
Monday was a busy day for Donald Trump.
For our Amish readers or those who miss the seemingly daily outcries on social media that work as a barometer for all things Trump these days, the real estate mogul/media personality-turned presidential candidate now made a couple announcements in regards to his plans to fight terrorism and prevent attacks on American soil.
Trump’s campaign released an official press release in which he called for a ban on all Muslims entering the United States.
“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on,” the release reads, followed by a direct statement from Trump in which he explains “until we are able to determine and understand this problem [terrorism] and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”
The proposal is similar in nature, although grander in scale, than previous ideas floated by Trump, which included putting mosques under surveillance and keeping a database of all Muslims in the country.
Trump followed that up by giving a speech in which he called for “closing the Internet up in some way” as a means to combating terrorist recruitment and propaganda online, advising that “we have to go see Bill Gates and lot of different people” about the issue and brushed off any potential free speech advocates who opposed the idea as “foolish people.”
For the most part, several political analysts were quick to theorize that Trump’s suggestions were designed more to help boost his flagging polling numbers in Iowa, where the first primary event (the Iowa caucus) is set to go down, and where Trump was starting to get edged out by Ted Cruz. Until now.
