Today marks the start of the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese New Year and since the dragon is the mightiest of the signs, symbolizing dominance and ambition, you might as well start the year off right and celebrate it that way.

Many Asian communities around the world brought the Chinese New Year in with food, fun and fanfare! Communities got together and threw celebrations that could very well put New Year’s Eve in New York to shame.

In Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and many cities around the U.S. there were celebrations held featuring floats, festivals, parades and thousands of people.

In New York the celebration kicked off Monday night with the Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival in Roosevelt Park in Chinatown.

On Jan.28 in Seattle a festival will be held in the Chinatown–International District in Hing Hay Park and in the capital, Washington D.C., the Chinese consolidated Benevolent Society will host its Chinese New Year Parade on Jan. 29 in the city’s downtown Chinatown neighborhood. There also several other cities hosting celebrations.

Since this is the Year of the Dragon, dominance and ambition can carry over to many parts of life. The traits of the dragon can be used in work, love and health.
In love dragons “very much like to be in relationships,” but they are fiercely independent. Even though, they are very independent, they are also extremely loyal and will usually stay with a significant other for life.

For a career the dragon usually likes to be the take charge leader or is always looking for what is the next step up. This might be the year for that big promotion.

This is considered the luckiest year in the Chinese Zodiac, so it might as well be the year that you take charge!
