Justin Timberlake was accused of calling his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears a b--ch while performing at Direct TV’s Super Bowl concert on Sat, Feb. 2.

Timberlake, 32, graced the stage in New Orleans to sing his popular break-up hit Cry Me a River but not before introducing the performance. He said to the audience, “Sometimes in life, you think you found the one, but then one day you find out that she is just some bitch.”

Concert attendees immediately suspected that Timberlake's opening line was a dig at his ex Spears. The two dated in 2000 but their relationship ended in 2002, and it has been a long-running rumor that Cry Me a River was an ode to Spears.

The following day, Timberlake took to Twitter to refute the accusations.

“Ok. I see you. Wouldn’t disrespect ANYONE personally. Ever. #Relax #ItsBritneyBitch I do love that saying though *with accent* #Respect,” he wrote.

In 2011, Timberland, who collaborated with Timberlake on the track, revealed that Cry Me a River was written about Spears.

“He went to a concert and saw Britney, and Britney talked about him in the show and he was pissed.” he said, adding that Timberlake's feelings at that time inspired the tune. “I was like , ‘Man, don’t worry about it’ and he was like, ‘I can’t believe she did that to me’ and was like, ‘You were my sun, you were my earth.' ”

Timberlake moved on to marry Jessica Biel in Italy in October 2012. His new album, 20/20, will be released in March 2013.

Suit & Tie, the first single off his forthcoming album, fell short of sales expectations for its first week. The song featuring rapper Jay-Z sold 314,000 downloads last week though industry experts had expected about 350,000 downloads.
