'50 Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: Rooney Mara a Prospect for Anastasia Steele Role?
The film adaptation of E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey erotica continues to make waves across the Internet, as speculation in regards to who will ultimately land the role of the college graduate Anastasia Steele heats up.
While many of the same actresses have been brought up over and over again, a new prospect has actually surfaced for the part: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Rooney Mara.
The 27-year-old actress spoke to The Daily Beast and the respective interview has now ignited rumors that she could potentially be cast to play Steele.
"I'm interested in the duality of people. I have a lot of darkness and frenetic energy inside myself, so it's easier for me to portray people with shades of grey," she said. "I'm very shy but when I get comfortable with people I'm not and I have a little spark to my personality, a little punch. But I'm very slow to warm up to people."
While the Lisbeth Salander character that Mara portrayed in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a far cry from that of Steele, the actress is believed to have the range to pull it off. Mara's experience with both nudity and sex scenes has also been considered as another reason why she would be the perfect fit as the love interest to S&M-crazed billionaire Christian Grey.
Other notable actresses who fans are strongly considering as potential candidates for the Steele role include Nina Dobrev of Vampire Diaries, Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars and Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel.
Up until this point, James and the producers of the Fifty Shades film have remained mum on how the casting process will ultimately unfold. Only time will tell who lands the coveted role of the college graduate-turned Red Room of Pain participant.
