Things are going to get very intense with the return of season 17 of Law & Order: SVU.

In a recent interview with TVGuide, showrunner Warren Leight dished about the next episode, which is set to air in the new year. Leight really amped up the hype, stating that the rest of the season is going to start off with a bang.
"We're going to start off the year new, for people who worry about Olivia, with the scariest episode of the season," Leight said. "We haven't quite gone this far with her since the William Lewis [Pablo Schreiber] stuff."
Season 17 Hits Ratings High With Latest Episode
Elaborating on the fate of the characters, Leight revealed that Olivia is going to find herself in a "horrible, threatening situation."
"Olivia has been a little bit distracted or slightly off her game," Leight said. "She's doing very good as lieutenant, but she hasn't had a full squad this season. So there's been more and more pressure on her, and she's been making some mistakes. We're going to start out with a moment in which she drops her guard just for a moment and gets herself into a horrible, threatening situation. ... She'll be dealing with the after-effects of that for a little while."
Season 17 will return sometime in January.
The fall finale episode of the series aired on Nov. 18.
