Prior to entering prison in 2012, the Teen Mom OG signed her custody rights to 6-year-old Leah to her ex-boyfriend, Gary Shirley, and ever since, she has been fighting to get her daughter back in her life part-time.
“I’ve been out for three years and I’m sober,” Portwood said in the trailer for the upcoming season, according to a report by Radar Online on Monday. “I want joint custody of my daughter.”

While Portwood has stayed out of trouble since serving 17 months behind bars, Shirley doesn't feel she's ready to reclaim her rights as a parent to their daughter.
“Leah needs to be in a stable, steady home,” he said.
In addition, claimed Shriley, he didn't feel confident in Portwood’s fiancé, 43-year-old Matthew Baier.
“Her fiancé has 7 kids and she doesn’t even know about this,” Shirley alleged.
“I’ve been with this man for over a year,” Portwood shouted in response. “I think I know him.”
Then, speaking to the cameras, Portwood expressed her disappointment in the situation, saying, “I always feel like I’m one step ahead, I get knocked back five steps."
The new season of Teen Mom OG begins airing on Monday, Jan. 4, at 10 p.m. on MTV.
