Jodi Arias Trial Live Stream, Day 16; Day 3 Testimony Revealed Sex With Travis Alexander on Day Of Baptism
After spending the first two days of her testimony discussing her abusive childhood and exploring various religions in her 20s with previous boyfriends, accused murderer Jodi Arias gave a shocking testimony on Wednesday about how her sex affair began with her murder victim, Travis Alexander.
Arias, 32, went into details about the weeks leading up to her baptism and how Alexander, a devout Mormon, methodically only had oral sex with her while converting her to Mormonism. The accused murderer shocked the jury and the rest of the courtroom when she said they had anal sex for the first time on the day she was baptized.
Donning a black jacket and green shirt, Arias discussed in detail about a weekend they spent together where they took a trip to Eherenberg, Ariz. They had several oral sex encounters that weekend and Alexander repeatedly asked her for anal sex, but she declined. That weekend he also explained the Mormon faith
"To me sex is sex, they're just different ways to have sex," Arias testified. "And it seemed like Travis was kind of...um, I don't know how to put it but it seemed like he had the Bill Clinton version, where as over here it seemed like oral and anal were also sex to me. But, not for him."
Arias said after the trip she spoke with Mormon missionaries and they told her about the faith's vow of prohibiting premarital sex. She said, however, she didn't think her and her lover were sinning because Alexander said oral sex wasn't a sin. The weekend was a huge disappointment to her because Alexander made her feel like a prostitute- he was not very affectionate.
"I didn't feel like we had grown closer. He seemed more distant,'' Arias said. "It didn't feel like too much too soon anymore because over that month we had really gotten to know each other really well. I developed feelings for him. It was confusing though.
"Well, I trusted what I was told by him. I didn't feel like we were sinning. I just felt, I hate to put it this way, I felt a little bit used. But, I knew I had gone there on my own willingly."
Arias testified that two weeks before she was baptized into the Mormon faith (Nov. 26, 2006) Alexander sent photos of his genitalia to her phone. Arias' defense attorneys then passed the photos, received on Nov. 11 of that year, around to the jury. She admitted she also sent nude photos of herself to him "to be fair."
When she was asked by the Mormon church if she understood their views on chastity shortly before the baptism, she said she thought she did understand their views in a "technical sense," because Alexander told her oral sex was fine.
"Your understanding of the law of chastity was abstaining from penile/vaginal intercourse, that is what your understanding was? Is that correct?" asked her attorney.
"Yes," replied Arias.
Arias described in graphic detail that shortly after her baptism, Alexander took her to her house, bent her over and had anal sex with her. Arias said anal sex made her feel like "a piece of toilet paper."
"I was in my church clothes. He was in his church clothes. The kissing got more passionate, more intense," she said. "Then he spun me around...he bent me over the bed and he was just on top of me. I thought he was just going to keep kissing me."
Arias' attorney had her discuss even more scenarios where she felt disrespected and "used," in order to portray Alexander as obsessed with sex and secrecy all while pretending to be a devout Mormom who had no interest in having a real relationship with Arias. Since they met in September 2006 until his death in June 2008, they exchanged and took nude photos of themselves, had oral and anal sex, and eventually intercourse.
Arias stands accused of murdering Alexander, whose body was discovered in his Mesa, Ariz., home on June 4, 2008. When police found the victim, they saw that he had been shot in the face, stabbed 27 times and his throat was slit from ear to ear. If Arias is convicted of the murder she will likely face the death penalty, becoming the fourth woman in Arizona's history to die by lethal injection.
Arias' testimony is scheduled to resume on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
